The Spurgeon Association of Churches invites men (young and old alike) to join us in a monthly meeting of what is being called the Log College (Named after a college to train young ministers founded in the 1800's by C.H. Spurgeon. See the Founding of the Log College link on our Articles & Resources page.) This was started a year or so ago partly to train men for preaching but also to teach truths of scripture that have been widely forgotten in our day.
We will be using Jonathan Edward's work, Freedom of the Will to delve into the very important Biblical teaching on the nature of man's will. What is the will? Is there such a thing as free will? How does this relate to sin and the gospel? We will take a look at these and many other questions.
While we seek God that He might humble us and bring revival, we must also give ourselves to studying and meditating on the wonderful truths of Scripture, some of which have long been forgotten by many today. One such truth concerns the teaching on the human will, a doctrine that is vital to the gospel itself. So many people today are crying "Peace, Peace, when there is no peace" (Jer. 8:11) largely because they do not understand what scripture teaches concerning the will.
Please join us in this study whether you think God might be calling you to preach or not. We will generally be meeting the 4th Sunday afternoon of every month at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Manhattan, KS (Note, the November meeting has been moved to Sunday, Dec. 2nd -- see below). See below for details of time and location. If you have any questions, please email Richard Smith, who will be teaching/leading the study, at rsmith@sbaoc.org.
Next meeting time: Sunday, December 2nd at about 2:00 p.m.
